She calls it a cookie. He calls it a biscuit. He thinks they’re chips. She thinks they’re fries. Somehow, they’re both right… and very, very wrong.
Grits and a Brit is the delightfully sarcastic podcast where a Southern-born GRITS (Girl Raised In The South) and her British co-host hash out the absurd, endearing, and sometimes completely confusing quirks of UK and US culture.
Chris is American. Jay is British. They’re married. They live in America. And approximately four times a week, something happens that makes one of them stop and say:
“Wait… that’s not how we do it where I’m from.”
Expect sassy debates, cultural mistranslations, plenty of laughs, and frequent interruptions of:
“Of course Colour is spelt with a U!”
“And y’all call us strange?”
From biscuits and cookies to chips and fries, dates and temperatures, tipping, slang, food, holidays, traditions and all the wonderfully weird differences between everyday life in Britain and America, Chris and Jay discover that two countries can speak the same language and still somehow need subtitles.
And while Grits and a Brit is about the funny side of culture clash, it's also about something a little more universal: discovering that the things we think are simply “normal” are often just the way we grew up doing them.
